FAQ
What does “flash” climbing means? Flashing a route means Sending a route on your first try, with any prior knowledge of the route–verbal, or visual.
How does the contest work? For Amsterdam, Arnhem, Heerenveen and Nieuwegein there will be 10 to 12 new routes. For RijnBoulder there will be 30 plus boulders. For Dordrecht en Noardwand there will be 10 lead routes and 15 boulders. Lead: you can try every route once (flash). When you fall, you have to come down. Remember the zone you reached and mark your score on your personal scorecard. Boulder: there is a starting position, a zone hold and a top hold. A flash on a boulder gives you the highest possible score. Upon arrival you receive a personal scorecard.
From which age can I participate? From around 12 years old it will be fun to participate in the Flashtest contest. The routes are not specifically set for kids, which means they are less accessible for younger (smaller) kids.
Do I need to register for workshops or side-events? Yes. On the event day you can register for the workshops at the reception. Side-events are open all day and do not need a registration.
Do I have to be there at 11:00? No. You can come whenever you like. But keep in mind that it will be busy and you need enough time to try all the routes. Do you prefer a more quiet moment to try all the routes? Starting at 12:00 is then a good choice. From previous Flashtests we can predict that between 15:00 and 18:00 is the rush hour.
I have no experience with lead-climbing, can I participate? Yes! Definitely. All routes are climbed toprope.
Can I participate with all the Flashtests? Most definitely! You are welcome to join all Flashtests. Keep in mind that you can only win shoes two times (per year) in the contest.
